Frank, Thanks for the EXCELLENT link and article. This is why I dumped my MZ-5N package - Should have kept the body and just dumped the lens (28-80 FA f3.5-5.6) - and this is also why I've stuck to primes now.
K1000 with 19, 28, 50, 90 and 135 seems to do me just fine. Sure I sometimes long for the zoom convenience but then I think of that 28-80 and pass on it. Maybe it's my "upbringing" in photography that has made me feel this way - having a spotmatic with only a 55 f1.8 as a "learning" SLR or the Konica Auto S3 rangefinder with its fixed 38 f1.8 lens as my "main" camera when I was in my teens probably got me so used to seeing prime images that I can't shake them out of my bald noggin :) Primes are however alive and well but they usually stay in rangefinder country or migrate to Ebay :) Cheers, Dave -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of frank theriault Sent: Monday, May 20, 2002 9:11 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Primes for Newbies Sorry to revive this, but last week we had another "war" that started with "what zoom should I buy for my daughter", and devolved into "why students should start with primes". Here's an interesting article on the subject: http://www.vothphoto.com/spotlight/articles/forgotten-lens.htm I found it most interesting (sadly so) in it's discussion of the demise of the 50mm "standard" or "normal" lens. I love my 1.4 Super Tak... regards frank - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
