Larry, I just checked out the current state of Darktable for Win 64
systems, (since that's what I'm running), If you're running a Mac or
Linux box I'd check the supported camera list, but I can't remember
exactly. The Windows version doesn't support a Pentax body later than
the K-5. So you may still be out of luck. I'll let you know if it at
least opens K-5II files or if they're excluded for reasons...

That is now my primary (practically only) raw development/image

The scope of its functions far exceeds my needs.
Tutorials are many and you can easily reach people who have
technically proficient.
Darktable only needs your decision to invest some time on its user
interface and "mentality".
Practically all its tools can be used with easily applicaple
local/regional, drawn or parametric masks.
There are tools doing similar functions. However, the similarities are
for beginners.
For the experienced, this apparent redundancy offers a lot more
control. You can easily cuztomize your own workflow which can be
unique, if that is what you want.
I think the only barrier to learning it better is expecting it to
behave like one's earlier tool.
It does worth a serious try.

I've been less satisfied with Lightroom technically lately, and very
unhappy with their subscription only model. I recently ran across
references to darktable.
