I have the Motor Drive A (as you may have seen w/ my posts
regarding some problems I've had w/ it) and actually, the camera
feels really nice in my hands w/ the drive. I actually prefer
handling the camera this way- the camera w/o the drive feels a
bit too small and unwieldy with a telephoto on it.

On the other hand, the camera feels absolutely silly when I have
a small lens on it. Yes, it's very loud! I don't mind that, I'll
turn it off if I have to shoot more quietly.

You know one thing I really dislike about the new cameras? The
auto-rewinding feature is really noisy. With a manual rewind crank,
I can virtually silently rewind. With the newer cameras w/ built-in
winders, there is no manual backup and the rewinding is really loud.

U bet! With MDA, it's big, it's heavy, and it's LOUD! Clearly another 
marketing failure.  :)
