Thanks Bob - Paestum impressed us more than Herculaneum, maybe because both Pompeii and Herculaneum are familiar through the many TV programs on them. Paestum however, is not as crowded, is remote - you must walk for a mile along a country lane to reach the site - unfamiliar, has one of the best preserved Greek temples in Italy, and also one of the finest small museums I have ever visited. Well worth the 30-minute train ride from Salerno, or an hour from Naples.
