Late this afternoon while I was gardening, a large flock of Green Wood Pigeons visited a Fig tree overhanging my carport. Now, these are very difficult birds to photograph because they are very skittish & will explode out of the tree if disturbed. I slowly crept into the house to get my camera & slowly crept as close as I could get (about 20m). Most of the birds were in the middle of the tree but I managed to find a couple exposed in the weak sunshine. I then slowly backed off & put my camera back in the house before returning to pack away the garden tools. Then it happened - with much commotion the whole flock shot out of the tree in all directions. The Afrikanns name for this bird is Papagaaiduif (Parrot Dove) for obvious reasons.
