Ok, finally sussed it out. What it will do is set the correct shutter
speed in manual mode.
Compose, focus, stop down, green button to set the shutter speed, make
the exposure and it comes out properly exposed.
Exposure compensation [+/-] also works and if you press the AutoFocus
button while adjusting the focus manually the camera will beep at you to
tell you when it's in focus.
I've only had a chance to play with it a little bit (my planned outing
on Saturday unfortunately got rained out), so I still don't have
anything I want to share.
Gotta' get busy today because I have a new online (Zoom) photography
club on Wednesdays from 2:00pm EDT to 5:00pm.
The online classes I've been taking are in recess for the summer so the
instructor can go to Florida & see her new grandbaby, so we, the
students, decided we'd organize our own sessions for the summer
... and since I'd recently purchased a Zoom "pro" package I offered to host.
Anyway, I want something I can use to show off the capabilities of my
new acquisition ...

Th user manual INDEX does not have an entry for how to set it up to use
a manual aperture ... so I'm just having to read the whole thing to see
if it's there under another name.
It may be in the index and I'm just not smart enough to use the right

I'm thinking those "U" modes might allow me to set up the menu so I
don't have to set it up every time I want to use this lens ... just
program U1 (or whatever) with the appropriate functions & whenever I
want to use this lens put the camera in U1 and it's set to get proper
exposure with manual focus/manual aperture.

It's a very basic K-mount - I'm guessing a T-mount with a K adapter.
Mounted easily on the K-1, but showing "F--" so I guess I'm going to
actually have to RTFM to figure out how to tell the camera what I
want it to do.
With a quick perusal I didn't see anything about U1, U2, U3 ..., but
I think I did find how you set the shutter speed when using a non-A lens
More homework I guess.
