I run W2K on all my machines, and wouldn't be caught dead without it. Win98 was just too suicidal for me. Fell over at the slightest hurdle every day - day in day out. W2K (and I assume XP Pro) require a little more 'management overhead' but repay you with far less downtime, and infinitely less stress. As for the machine you have, I am running W2K quite successfully on 3 machines of vastly different capacities.
1. Athlon XP 1800+512mb RAM 2. Pentium III 450mhz+512mb RAM 3. Celeron 466Mhz +64mb RAM I don't really recommend the latter option, as it is very slow and struggles to do anything serious. But it runs better than it did under Win98 SE. The other two configurations fly. Particularly number one.
