Yeah, I think he speled it incorrectly. I think he meant daemons :)

Why doesn't ONE group take the higher road and offer to change your name? PLUG.org (as pointed out) belongs to the Provo Linux Users Group.

Egos, logistics, apathy, etc.

I'm disappointed that I got two responses about interesting projects such as rolling your own (or ANY other interesting project going on), but there are 76 (as of this writing) regarding NAMING (or is that flaming?).

A little more along the lines of your original post:

No, I haven't been thinking about rolling my own distro (though I did at one time). However, I've got a ton of projects that I'd like to do. For starters:

1. A nice interface for managing virtual domains in postfix with LDAP and cyrus. Similar in concept to Phamm[1] but without the ugly interface and specific to virtual mail hosting and not the other stuff

2. Work on building better enterprise management tools for Gentoo.

3. A good interface for configuring and managing a samba server that is setup to be a PDC for an NT domain.

4. A good backup software suite for Linux.

5. Thunderbird plugin for my spamfilter

6. A Kerberos KDC on a bootable CD with the key databasestored on a flash drive with an encrypted filesystem

7. A good configuration and management tool for IPSec tunnels in Linux

I've got plenty more. If you're interested in any of them (and that goes for anyone) let me know, and maybe we can start a "public service" for others.

I like how Josh is trying to make POSITIVE distinctions. How about changing to Columbia River Linux Users Group, or something that doesn't have a .com/.org attached already? It's almost painless to change the nameservers and domain registration.

Now are you refering to Josh, or Josh, or Josh, or Josh? Were there only 3? Damn, they should all change their names so it isn't so confusing.

How about Yet Another Portland Linux Users Group? It stays within geek tolerance levels for most. Members could be Yappies (as it seems that there certainly is a lot of talking). FOR THE MOST PART, I've seen that Linux users like to talk, and generally like each other, and often poke good-natured fun of themselves.

That's actually quite clever!

I could suggest two dozen names if you don't like any of these.

Have at it, I'm sure people will read. You know, us being flame and confussion junikes and all.

P.S. Please read this message, minus the project ideas, with a big huge fat :)
