Well, I'm trying to escape the Microsoft Menace before Vista arrives
and the WGA program raises total havoc with legitimate XP systems.
However, I have five distinct problems:
1. My major hobby (anime fandom) requires a great deal of DVD burning
and duplication. There are certain Windows programs I have come to
depend on that have no known Linux analogue. I probably shouldn't
specify which programs here -- you never know who is listening.
As just a fan of DVD's in general, i can tell you there are lots of
options in this catagory. My personal favority is dvd::rip, which is
really just a frontend to the transcode command line tools. They have
never let me down. There is also acidrip, which is a mplayer/mencoder
frontend that also works out well. And i can assure you that if you
google those, you will find lots of documentation on how to accomplish
what you want to.
And as far as burning goes, k3b is THE burning software. I don't know if
your a kde user, but i would say give it a whirl, as i think nero could
learn something from them.
5. Even though I have 850GB total storage between two internal and one
external hard drive, I am still uncertain of how I can migrate my data
between OSs.
In this case, vfat is your friend. It is the only filesystem that can be
read by both OS's( there is some project about getting windows to read
ext2/3, but i have no expirence with this). Case in point, my roommate
dual boots, and he has about 200G's of mp3's. He has them on a spread
out over a couple of partitions, and has them all formated fat32,
mounted, and can listen to his music on both OS's. No muss, no fuss.
I hope these things will help you along on your weening of bad software.
And if you run across any problems, i'm sure there are more than enough
people on this list that are willing to help you through them, myself
included
b.
