Hmmm... Out of curiosity, I just tried this (I changed the font to Arial from Times) and made a global change and it did absolutely nothing...

Double click on any net label. Click on global, then edit the font to one size smaller. The default is 10, change it to 9, and make the global edit apply to all net labels, or only to selected ones that have the bar in them. That's all there is to it.
