You probably mean ECC RAM.

Registered RAM is slightly slower and quite a bit more expensive.

These days most registered RAM is also ECC (due to the higher cost and the
fact that typically registered RAM is now generally only used by servers
that have larger memory requirements).

I am a big fan of ECC, but RAM quality is so improved now that it's been a
long time since I've seen a name brand memory module go bad.

Besides Memtest86 and Windows Memory Diagnostic, Prime95 is a great memory
and CPU stress/torture test. It makes a great burn in tool/diagnostic.
