I didn't take that course, though I did take the full EE degree track as a "minor" (major without degree) to my accredited degree in Physics. It does make a difference how you think about it though, as I tried to suggest re early import vehicles from Japan with batteries labeled in reverse to what we expect in the West. As long as everyone speaks the same language, so to speak, there is no problem, but when one language calls gasoline water and the other calls gasoline gasoline, it can get awfully interesting when someone tries to put out a fire.
Technically speaking, it does make a difference in sign (direction), if nothing else. Secondly, the one is real flow, the other simply conceptual (in electric current through most roughly room temperature solid metals like copper and steel and aluminum).
