i think brad is onto it here
maybe laurie managed to get one of those pesky zero length objects in there ?

laurie, post a link to a footprint if you want

BTW,
did you ever notice that when you do a copy and paste using the right click in the components pane of the pcb lib editor that the pasted footprint loses the origin and resets to pin 1 ?

i lost a lot of work once mucking about until i found the reason for a lot of origins shifting

does DXP/Protel 2004/AD do this too ?

Laurie,
I have never seen that problem with any library parts I have created. I
would suggest that you look at the following. Where are your parts located with
respect to 0,0 in the library? Do you have some small line, text or other item
way off away from the part? The designators will locate themselves relative to
the extents of your footprint.

Subject: [PEDA] Protel 99SE Footprints

I have created a number of component footprints for my pcb designs (Protel
99SE). When placing these components the Designator and Part Type fields are
always a long way off from the component unlike the footprints that were
supplied with Protel. What do I need to do to the footprint to force these
fields to start initially next to the footprint?

I know that, once applied, I can reposition using the `position field' (which
by the way already defaults to Centre-Above and Centre-Below) but this has to
be done with EVERY homemade footprint I have created.

Best Regards
