Hi Brad,
I assume you are talking about an outline, and not the designator or comment.
For the outline, you cannot turn it off selectively. You can double click
on the component, unlock the primitives, then change the layer assignment
for the outline to an unused mechanical layer, then re-lock the
primitives. There is some risk doing it this way - first, you could
accidentally move other primitives when they are unlocked; second, if you
later update the component from the library, your outline change will be
undone. As long as you keep these small risks in mind, you should be OK.
If you mean the designator or comment, yes these can be individually turned
on or off for each component using the appropriate check boxes.
