Hi Bob,

I have something interesting in front of me - a "key card" for Protel.
But, I also have no access to a 5.25" drive any more, and I certainly
don't have a machine with an XT expansion slot for the card. I think it
was XT, wasn't that the short one compared to the longer AT one? Who
remembers, soooooo long ago :)

My 5.25" discs are for Protel 2.0, developed by Protel Systems,
distributed by HST Industries, in 1986. I have the discs to suit the
powerhouse NEC APC III that I was using at the time.

This kit is mint - I wonder what I can get for it on eBay :)

I have another old Red Box (like the 2.0 version) but this one is 3.12
dated about 1987. I notice in the "Release Notes" they mention:

(10) The new external protection device "SENTINAL" will now work on LPT2
as well as LPT1.

Perhaps the card you can't find was actually an early dongle. I can't
find a card or dongle for this version...

Sorry about the nostalgia - I couldn't help it.

Thanks,
Scott.

Subject: Re: [PEDA] Converting Very Old Protel V3 PCB Files

I have located the box containing my original Protel disks and manual.
Unfortunately, I no longer have a computer with a 5.25 disk drive
installed and anyway, I have no idea where the "key card" required to
run the PCB editor is.
The requirements for this program, Protel PCB Edit V3.12 are:
IBM-PC/XT/AT computer or compatable. (There is a note that the program
uses integer arithmetic, so there is no advantage in installing an
8087/80287 Numeric Coprocessor.)
MS-DOS or PC-DOS, version 2.0 or greater.
One Unoccupied Half-card Slot (for the Key Card)
2 Disk Drives - one floppy and one either floppy or hard disk.
256K (or greater) RAM
CGA or EGA graphics card
Colour Monitor
Microsoft Mouse
