Gary, List: I will simply expand a bit on Mike Bergman’s post and the perplex principles and logic of quanta chirality.
Again, from the lens of atomicity, but at an a larger objective scope and scale. The methodological issue of measurements of chirality, what is now know as a quanta - electrodynamic phenomena, is not at issue. The basic measurement technique has not changed; one simply observes the degree of rotation of plane-polarized light after it has passed through the solution containing the substrate. Verry, very simple. First, to set the stage as to the role of chirality in molecular biology, the source of left-handed and right handed individuals emerges directly from the chirality of molecules. This is the scope of the physical manifestations of chirality. The deterministic scale of chirality thus span some twenty - seven orders of magnitude. The molecular organization of life includes two deterministic categories of chirality, left-handed amino acids and right-handed carbohydrates . Chiral determinism is critical. The reproductive processes are genetically / molecularly organized to construct the same optical- isomers from generation to generation. The fidelity of biological reproduction is dependent on constructing the same chirality of all the constituents of the cell. Philosophically, one notes that the theories of physics are grounded in symmetry principles of mathematical groups, the principles of biochemistry are grounded and bounded in permutation groups that necessary generate asymmetry of chirality. Chirality is one of the crucial concepts that separate the specificity of biological species from the “universals” of mathematics, physics and logics. Loosely speaking, the “lattices” of physical groups differ from the “lattices” of biochemical groups and both differ from the Prof. Marty's usage of the term ascribed to CSP’s rhetorical texts. >From the perspective of symbolic logic, chemical / biochemical logic are >relational logics among the "atomic numbers”, a term which was invented by >Rutherford in 1911, shortly before CSP past. Consequently, the qualitative >origins of chirality were not known to CSP. In modern logical terminology, chemical objects and objective chemical dynamics are related through a unique form of modal logic (NOT the model logic of the real number system.) More specifically, the concepts of these logical “signatures”, a technical concept of informed composition of terms, differ. The signatures of types of chemical modal logics, types of model logic and the semantics of Prof. Marty’s “lattices” express different species of quantitative relations. Metaphorically, the differentiation of the notes from the strings, the horns and the percussions flash. Further clarifications if desired. Chirality grounds the issue of the precision of inheritance, not merely the artificial rhetoric of taxonomies without syntax.
