The analogy to covalent bonds is a very good one. The dicisign is analogous to 
a molecule and the subject/index or rheme is equal to the atoms with the 
electron gaps showing how they all fit together. However it’s an analogy that 
clearly works best with chemists or physicists and also breaks down with very 
much thinking. However I think it does illustrate how he was thinking of things.

(I’m very behind in reading Peirce-L - I’ll hopefully catch up over the next 
couple of days)
