Oh, the other reason is that once Horkheimer brought the Frankfurt School to the US, he failed to support Grossman's strictly Marxian research; he refused to publish his mss on dynamics *Capital*--which has only appeared in Germany and in an almost impossible to get early issue of Capital and Class. As I understand it, Horheimer kept his stipend very small, and he did not lobby for him to be able to teach at Columbia. Grossman was also the one scholar whose tenure was rejected when the school was in Germany. rb
