Consumer Reports has been raving about the Sonatas. Don't sell them short just because of plastic, used even on top-end cars (Mercedes, BMW, etc.) though perhaps not quite as widely. The new Sonata can be had with a 2 liter turbo-charged engine that puts out about 275 horsepower and 270 ft-lbs of torque. They use direct-injection and twin-scroll turbos for this, technology that is used in Porsche engines, to get about 138 horsepower per liter, which is absolutely astonishing for a family sedan --- truly supercar territory. All this at very good gas mileage ratings as well. A friend of mine, long-time owner of American cars, bought a non-turbo and is delighted with it. He said it was the best car he's ever owned.
