I assume by "home" you mean the US. Yes, I recall that NYT piece as well. But I referring to their engineering/industrial doggedness. The pressure on kids is of course phenomenal in Korea, it has become less in Japan, China and India rank also high.
As an aside I just returned to pick up my nephews from the nearby community college. They live in the burbs of Pittsburgh. If not for the houses and manicured lawns one would not think one was in the US if you saw all the kids around. They are mostly Asians, with a high share of Indians and possibly Chinese. All these kids attend summer camps and now CC to brush up and advance in math. I am not surprised why Asians are stereotyped in the US.
