David Roberts -- isn't he at Grist? That organization is fanatical about population control, so if it is the same fellow I'm not surprised. A decade or two ago a prominent ex-Governor of Colorado made it his role to argue this same thing -- let the old people die and get out of the way, we can no longer afford them. I dimly recall that the University of California medical school gave him a sinecure. He had a flurry in the limelight and perhaps has now taken his own advice. The failure to understand why the economy is flailing, failing, leads embracing explanations about eugenics, population, and the gold standard/money supply. Reality is too grim to face, otherwise.
