I am just having some fun.

Most free market types like me think voters are “rationally ignorant,” which is
probably what Gruber meant. But to me that implies democracy is a terrible way
to make decisions, while Gruber liberals thinks it is great – elites can work
the system to achieve progressive goals that could not be achieved if the
legislation is transparent.

David, I don’t think we see the voters as stupid. Ignorant yes, because of the
manipulation via the media, public relations, political advertising, and read
meat politics.

Check out the nearest sports bar and you will find people with enormous
analytical capacity regarding sports. People still believe that Saddam is
responsible for 9-11 & Obama is a Kenyan, or that climate change is a hoax.
The is the result of misinformation, indoctrination …

Or maybe people are not so ignorant after all, by choosing not to vote.

I am concerned that your statement about liberals was thrown in just to create
controversy.

Gruber is correct in one sense. The health care law is so complex, I doubt
that anyone in congress understood it. But if you want stupid, just listen to
what the politicians say.

The speech will surely be broadcast live on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, so anybody
who wants to watch it can watch it. The problem for liberals, as we know from
Jonathan Gruber, is that they think voters are stupid, so apparently liberals
are concerned that the voters won’t realize they could watch the speech if they
turned the channel. Or even worse, the typical voter has no interest in what
the Prez has to say and would rather watch The Big Bang Theory, so they should
be “nudged” to pay attention.

Apparently the networks are refusing to broadcast Obama's immigration reform
speech tonight.

But apparently you can watch the speech on TeleSur English, along with
commentary from Aura Bogado, a leading immigration reform expert (and editor of
Colorlines.org).

This is kind of an interesting turn of events.

There's a law in Venezuela that the private TV networks have to broadcast the
President's speech.

Some people claim that this law is a big assault on press freedom.

Now American liberals can taste the other side of the argument. :)
