That's is a fair point. I guess we all do this to a degree, but I like to
think that I actively try to resist that.

I am much more conflicted about this than you are. I find it problematic
that anyone should feel either pride or shame over their ethnic identity.
That seems to make about as much sense as feeling proud about one's
birthday or star sign.
