========= Gruber does not come across in the limited framing of his behavior as a liberal. He comes across as a technocratic elitist. Plato would probably have liked him. The US Congress is not the product of democracy afaik. No, I do not think of democracy as a great way to make decisions. Any more than I think markets are a great way to make decisions. Too much reification is involved in your statement [as well as my response to it.] At the current conjuncture our institutions lead individuals/groups to make horrible decisions. Agony seems to be our lot for quite a while. That is not a recipe for resignation, just an admission we need to continue thinking about whether we've inflicted enough miseries on our fellows and whether we're prepared to stop.
