taking both the non-Marxist left and the ultraright down the same path.

After JFK was killed, leftist Mark Lane collaborated with Willis Carto of
the Liberty Lobby and Fletcher Prouty in conspiracy-mongering.
In the 1980s, many of us were stunned when the leftist Christic Institute
joined forces with ultrarightist Bo Gritz in trying to hunt down the
"secret team" in Central America. Of course, there was nothing "secret"
about what was going on. The search for "rogue" CIA agents and military men
betrays a naiveté about American society.
I myself am open to any verifiable evidence about the inner workings of the
American national security apparatus, but empty speculation bores and
annoys me.
