Carrol, who always criticizes generalizations about "leftists" or any other population, gives Yoshie a free pass. Few "male leftists" - a curious phrase, since bourgeois feminists are most likely to get exercised over the abuses of women in Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. - said all that much about Iranian gender relations until she started running her apologias for the regime.
Now, too many male leftists are busy saving Muslim women from Muslim men. Before that, many of them were busy saving Bosnian Muslim women from Serbian men. That's already a forgotten chapter because their attention span is short. At that time, a lot of bourgeois feminists were at the forefront of the propaganda campaign for Western interventions. Today, bourgeois feminists do not seem as excited, perhaps because it's the Republican White House today. If Bush had been a Democrat, no doubt I would have heard more bourgeois feminists calling for sanctions on Iran, etc. -- Yoshie <http://montages.blogspot.com/> <http://mrzine.org> <http://monthlyreview.org/>
