I do not know what you mean exactly by "support graphics", but I do here
(in Debian sid, version 5.6.1-6 of the plplot packages):
apt-get install pdl plplot9-driver-gnome2 libplplot-dev
cd /usr/share/doc/libplplot9/examples/perl
perl x01.pl -dev gcw
and I see nice graphics.
