Well, regular Debian users should not bother with compiling software.  On the
other hand, when they try to compile PDL from the CVS sources, then it
becomes a general problem, not a Debian-specific problem.  In order to have
the PLplot support compiled, PLplot must be installed in the system (see
www.plplot.org, although the libplplot-dev package should be sufficient).

The gnome2 driver is much better than the xwin one, in special regarding
fonts, since it can show antialiased fonts in Unicode encoding, like in
