I work on Linux, so I'm accustomed to installing stuff from CPAN, so being able to do that with Strawberry without having to worry about having nmake or a compiler was a big relief. In my case, I needed to install GPIB and Wind32::GuiTest (to automate a Windows data-taking program that didn't have an OLE interface). Perhaps I could have downloaded it from a PPM server, but I had run into an issue with that once and wanted it to "just work." The CPAN install did, for me.
