I used to cite the authors but that is tedious now, so these days I generally just add this to the acknowledgements: "Our data analysis result made [heavy] use of the freeware Perl Data Language (http://pdl.perl.org)". (where I put "heavy" if the result was primarily enabled by PDL tools).
