No need. I ran a voodoo3 for years, and had lots of stability issues, in particular to some 3d games in the windows platform.

I won't comment on the windows problems -

The suggestion that there is a perfect video card for every platform, and perfect drivers for this video card is an absolute joke.

I'm not sure about "every platform" and I never made assertions about "perfect" hardware, but here's what I am saying: in a decade or so of using and administering linux, both personally and for a living, I've concluded that it's quite a stable platform in general.

Playing the most demanding 3D FPS games did
nothing to disturb that impression, but rather
augmented it -

Plugging in an Radeon card quickly produced
an unpleasant and unacceptable anomaly - I
spoke with other linux users who had noted the
same symptoms with DRI and Radeon -

Replacing the Radeon with a GeForce returned
the system to the expected level of reliability -

Granted, not exactly a rigorous scientific test,
but I didn't require any further proof -

Yes voodo3 was a very "solid" platform, but it was by no means perfect. Gone are the days of "solid" OSS 3d drivers as well. You'll just have to face that fact.

Yikes, OSS is regressing? The drivers are getting less reliable and less functional over time? Somehow that strikes me as fallacious and in any event would be an unacceptable situation - I'll bet that most OSS developers would find it objectionable as well.

Best Regards,

Joe
