His problem is that Advanced server cost $1500 dollars per year, even
Redhat ES costs $349 dollars per year.
Now I suspect he pitched to his client that they could go the redhat
route and get security updates for $60 per year and not be forced to
upgrade on a yearly basis.
Now he finds that to offer this kind of stability to his clients they
are going to have to pay between 6 and 25 times as much.
Now if you work in a company where a 6-25 time price hike doesn't matter
that much I'm really happy for you, not all people do though.
I can understand why redhat have changed their product pricing, after
all to support all older operating systems was costing increasing
amounts of money, I just have difficult to the level of the cost change
and the brief period (12 months) of stability for the now named
"community product".
Especially since redhat got a foothold in our business based on the
earlier model.
Regards,
Dave.
