Consistency is a matter of time. If PHP-FIG promoted suffix-less convention, majority of projects would change it as well. Existing PSRs are not supposed to be relevant forever. They may be deprecated and replaced in the future.
By the way, technically, it is possible to fix it with BC with http://php.net/class_alias.
