I might suggests, from reports here and elsewhere, that your best bet is to find a *Macintosh* and do the upgrade from there. Other than having an out-of-date StuffitExpander, it went very smoothly for me. Copy shops often have them... It's a scary operation to watch - when it reloads (which takes a couple of minutes) it apparently uses video memory as some kind of buffer space, so you get some impressive bitpatterns on the screen while that runs.
