Sarah,
            I believe the Airequipt Jr has a cover interlock switch, may be
your unit has a defective switch that is "on" for white light all the time.
A handy person may find a way to replace the switch, or perhaps even fix the
switch.

Answering your question, any "in line" switch, like those used for table
lamps, could be used.  Your local home improvement center could provide you
with the switch and advice on its installation. Make sure you tell them how
the power cord looks like.  It should not be a problem installing this
switch.....heck, even Martha can do it, I saw her installing a $2 switch on
an "inexpensive" Tiffany lamp, I think it was show # 666!!

An even easier/better solution is just to plug the Airequipt cord to an
enlarger timer, this way you have not only ON-OFF capabilities but you can
precisely time your exposure.
