Git is already planned for integration via the SFW consolidation.

I believe it is already in progress through the SFW C-Team for 
integration very soon.

While I don't want to discourage Chris or anyone else from providing 
packages for /contrib duplication of work already in progress isn't 
useful and if we end up with the package in both places we could have a 
serious disaster in some cases (probaly not an issue in this case).
