Admittedly, the current default does make sense from the perspective
that the depot server is a web server too and you are expected to be
able to browse its contents.

I'm interested in hearing what others have to say about this ...

This isn't a code change if we decide to change it, merely a change in
pkg-server.xml for the smf default imo.
