OpenACS Fans, Oops, I ment to reply to the list and ended up sending this to Shawn privately. I forgot that I hadn't set up an Apache Role to fix the reply-to address for this list yet. Shawn - please forgive the double message.

Yes, I changed it with: # svccfg -s application/pkg/server setprop pkg/port=10000 And, I could add packages to the repository and install packages from the repository. It was just when searching that I would get the 503 error. I forget now if I tried it with Indiana installed natively, it might have just been while I was running it under VMware that I was seeing that error. Right now I don't have an Indiana system to retry it with. To make a long story less long a couple of weekends ago I tried switching my home PC from Debian Linux to Indiana. After a few snags with trying to install packages I ended up deciding to give it a little more time in hopes more of the kinks will be worked out. But, since it's tuff to go back once one's had a taste of ZFS I ended up installing FreeBSD instead of going back to Linux. With ZFS still being in the experimental stage on FreeBSD I've had at least four ZFS related hangs so far. But on the other hand it's tuff to beat the 18,000+ ports available in the FreeBSD ports tree. If I remember correctly, most of the package install problems I had were with the BlastWave IPS repository. A couple I can remember, for example, were mpg123 and ffmpeg. mpg123 would get partway through the install then complain about a file, or it might have been a directory, that wasn't found. When I tried to install ffmpeg it would just hang. I don't think it got as far as displaying the creating plan message. I ended up installing mpg123 and ffmpeg via BlastWave's pkg-get. Based on it's performance I suspect the ffmpeg package was compiled with mmx disabled. Enabling mmx just about triples it's performance. I tried compiling ffmpeg from source but couldn't get ./configure to do a thing. It displayed an error message, which I forget at the moment, right off the bat. And, although I didn't dig too far into it it didn't seem like Indiana was making full use of my hyperthreaded CPU. Is there perhaps a setting I need to tweak somewhere? I've been watching the mailing lists and have been considering giving Indiana another try in the near future. Does anyone know if OpenACS will run on Indiana? After switching to FreeBSD I've been taking it for a spin, and would like to continue. > Which brings up another interesting point...should the depot server > really default to port 80 in the smf configuration given that users are > likely to have a web server running too? My vote would be no, since I usually do have a web server for testing purposes running on my home box.
