The fact that you are required to install a heap of multimedia packages is a defect of either the packages, or the packaging system and should be resolved. Something like --no-deps is an ugly hack for a deficiency in the system. If you find that you're required to install multimedia packages that you don't need, please file a bug, and eventually we'll sort out a way so that you don't have to.
