Hi,

downloading and installing packages is incredibly slow on my OpenSolaris 2009.06 server. E.g. the upgrade from OpenSolaris 2008.11 to 2009.06 took a whole night. Currently I'm installing sunstudio12u1 (Sun cc needed for the installation of Perl modules). After over an hour, we are only at:

r...@balrog:~/Digest-SHA-5.47# pkg install sunstudio12u1

It's the same with any kind of packages, and indipendent of time of day. Our network connectivity is usually good. The server is a DELL PowerEdge 860 (Dual Core Xeon 3050 @ 2.13 GHz) with 2 GB RAM and 250 GB SATA HD. It drives me crazy

I've found only few other such reports on the net and no solution so far. Any idea what could be the problem? I'm more to used to Linux nowadays (last time I used Solaris it was Solaris 9 quite some years ago..), and this slowness is driving me completely crazy ;-}

Cheers and thanks in advance

    frank
