for m in i586 x64; do
download jdk7-solaris-$m.tar.Z
uncompress archive
extract tarball
pkgadd all resulting packages
sanity check
reboot system
sanity check
pkgrm all just-added packages
reboot system
sanity check
done
I was completely unable to reproduce any instability on my system, using
either the i586 or x64 tarballs for jdk7.
As I asserted, these packages and operations are safe, and there's
information missing about what else was done on your system.
In addition, there is absolutely nothing in pkgadd or pkgrm or the
tarballs in question that should affect /var/pkg.
