I've tracked the source of the error code 128 as far as line 92 of
/usr/share/debconf/frontend, indicating that the 128 is generated within
$confmodule, but I'm not familiar enough with the internals of Debian
package
management to trace it any further than that at this time.

packages all upgraded successfully to 8.0.14-1+deb8u6. It is only the
