For folks who aren't developers (and aren't interested in learning
how to become one) who nevertheless use free software and either want
to "give something back" or are frustrated about how to help a
particular feature get into a particular program, I recommend:

"HOWTO Pay for Free Software", http://puzzling.org/pub/HOWTO/Free/

Someone who isn't motivated enough to learn a programming language and
add a feature themselves may have other skills, or money, or hardware,
which they could contribute which might motivate a developer to give up
their free time to work on that feature. Please don't forget that when
you make requests, what you're asking is, "Please give up your evenings
and weekends for the next N weeks so that I can have my feature."
