If no one follows the standard, you get chaos and you will be chained
to specific OS and or programs! That was the world of computing in the
late 70s, when I starting to use computers. No one with a system from
company A was able to read data produced with a system from company B.

It's o.k. if someone tries to EXPAND a standard, if this will make
things easier and the expansion doesn't make it impossible to use the
data for persons which program doesn't understand this. But most of the
extensions today are made for one reason: Make it impossible to use the
data for the users of program X and nothing else! This can't be what we
all want!?

And it is one thing, to make good extensions for a standard or violating
them!

Regards,
Michael
