sendmail performance has been my concern
lately. Our company maintains a linux box dedicated solely
for mailing
lists which sends around 400,000 mails
per day (at two 200K batches).. It's
quite a good machine (dual-p3, 128mb) sitting on a 192k asymmetric dsl with no other significant traffic other than mails.
The lists are generally non-interactive.. Our list manager
is "Subscribe Me" provided by cgiscriptcenter.com.
The problem is it takes about 40 hours to complete the two batches!
We may need to replace the list manager with
listserv, listar, majordomo or others but isnt it the mail server (sendmail)
that
holds the greatest
performance factor? I'd appreciate if you could give hints and tips to make
delivery faster under sendmail.
lsmtp of l-soft claims to be the fastest (but it's
only for nt and openvms, so it would be a hard choice when i have
to
administer remotely, though i know co. management
will ultimately consider it). Any thoughts on this claim?
Best regards.
