Dom, the fastest would be to snag the other PC's CDROM drive ;)

But you learned a lot from the other experience so that is good also.;)

So what you did was to pxe boot from a tftp server with an install image?  How 
did you make the local installation sources available to the PC? NFS? Apache? 
FTP?

Whenever I get these types of problems I try Opera.  Sometimes it works.  But 
yes, the government should stop the IE only web services.
