Thanks for the tips, Ariz. Currently, the MySQL setup uses the defaults. I 
would appreciate what other changes from the default I should make.

Can you explain further? As I understand replication, all changes to the 
master are saved to a script as commands, and it is this script which is sent 
to the slaves. What is this about two types of replication?

We will only have one slave on the network itself. It is this slave, not the 
master, which will in turn replicated by an off-site slave. All other 
replications will be done from this off-site slave. This minimizes the load 
on the master, and on the pipe. Please tell me how to improve this setup.
