Well, if you don't care that your POS can't print out a proper *official* receipt with all of the legal requirements that entails, I don't think you need to bother with certification from the BIR. Just let your customers know that any tape receipt your POS prints out is not an official receipt, make it say so down at the bottom, and tell them that if they want one they have to ask for one explicitly. I've seen many businesses with ad hoc POS systems that are essentially ordinary PCs, some of which even run GNU/Linux.
