> cat /dev/devname > fname.img
where [devname] could be:
sda, ... sdX (if SCSI or SATA),
hda,... hdx (if IDE)
or some other media device prefix/name
to restore:
> cat fname.img > /dev/devname
back to the new target device. note that fname.img location should have enough
free space to take on the full size of your source [devname].
the above suggestion may not be economical if source [devname] is too huge. and
in such case, i use manual linux commands such as:
> fdisk
> mount source and target partitions
> cp -aRf source target
> lilo/grub boot loader partition
note that you can `cp -aRf` each source partition into another pre-prepared
target partition. a bit of manual labor but it works!
