We have ethernet running through the house now. I plan to connect
some Arduino-driven sensors in the garage, feeding the Alix that
is out there, and access the data from other machines, over the
ethernet. Thus, we will be able to see whether we left the garage
door open (and close it) over the net.

But there are a few places where I would like to access the data
where we won't have normally have computers, laptops, or iPhones.

It would be nice to have a low power, low bandwidth small display
connected to the ethernet that could display status. A few LEDs
and buttons at minimum, a push-to-light small display with touch
panel might be nicer. I would like "open programmable", though
perhaps not a complete OS. Low power (milliwatts) when not user
activated, sub-second turnon, and small.

X10 is a little too simple and slow, and the branching of the
circuits and all the power-factor-corrected electronic ballast
fluorescents would probably eat the X10 signal. I would prefer
ethernet, or at least low voltage signalling, so I can fiddle
with it and not get zapped.

Does anyone know of little displays or interface boxes that do
what I've described?
